The City of Cumming is a commuter town for Atlanta, with a large portion of its residents using Georgia State Route 400 to get to and from work in the state’s capital. The City of Cumming is home to many outdoor attractions including the scenic Lake Sidney Lanier, Cumming’s #1 tourist attraction.

Lake Sidney Lanier, located just 40 minutes north of Atlanta off GA 400, is a great place for swimming, camping, boating and fishing. Lake Lanier Canopy Tours also offers exciting ziplining opportunities right over the picturesque lake. Another fun place for the whole family to visit is the nearby Tanglewood Farm, a 10-acre Western themed petting zoo with over 100 Rare, Miniature, and Heritage breed farm animals.

For indoor activities, Cumming families can make their way to The Ice, an indoor ice skating rink that offers figure skating classes, birthday parties, and hockey games. Let’s Roll Skate ‘n Fun Center, a family owned and operated indoor skating center, is another popular destination for Cumming families, located just a 10-minute drive away from Montessori Academy at Vickery. For the artists in the Cumming family, Glazed and Fired offers a paint-your-own-pottery program with hundreds of pieces to choose from.

For Cumming residents, the nearby City of Atlanta also offers a variety of fun places for children and families to explore. One of these places, World of Coca-Cola, is a museum that showcases the history of the Coca-Cola company, featuring a Taste It! Beverage Lounge where visitors can sample over 100 international and domestic drink flavors made by the company. The CNN Center in Atlanta, which is the world headquarters of the media giant CNN, offers behind-the-scenes studio tours to families for a reasonable cost, and free for children 3 and under. Located just a few minutes away from the CNN Center is the Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the Western Hemisphere. The Georgia Aquarium provides a unique and memorable experience for Cumming families, allowing its visitors to come face-to-face with their favorite sea critters, such as whale sharks and manta rays.

It is also designed to ensure the safety and security of every child attending. Security and safety features at MAV include a School Emergency Plan coordinated with and authored by previous U.S. Secret Service Agents and emergency planning professionals, monitored entry to the school, gated campus with keyless PIN entry system, text alerts for parents in the event of emergencies, and strict visitor and volunteer policies.

Directions to Montessori Academy at Vickery from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport:

Montessori Academy at Vickery is only an hour drive from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. To get to MAV from Atlanta International Airport, hop on I-85 N and continue on the Interstate for about 30 minutes, passing Downtown Atlanta and Atlantic Station. As you pass Atlantic Station, follow signs for Marietta Chattanooga and keep right to merge onto I-75 North. After crossing the Chattahoochee River on I-75 N, use the right two lanes to take exit 259A for Interstate 285 E toward Greenville/Augusta. Follow the 285 for about five miles and then take exit 27 to merge onto GA-400 N/US-19 N toward Cumming. Continue on GA-400 for about 20 minutes and then take exit 12B for McFarland Parkway. Head north on McFarland Parkway and then turn right on Union Hill Road. Continue straight onto Mullinax Road and then continue on GA-371 after passing Atlanta Highway. Your destination, Montessori Academy at Vickery, will be on the right.

Directions to Downtown Atlanta from Montessori Academy at Vickery:

Similarly, a trip to downtown Atlanta from Montessori Academy at Vickery is also just an hour’s commute. To get to downtown Atlanta from Montessori Academy at Vickery, head south on GA-371, continue straight onto Mullinax Road and then straight onto Union Hill Road. Turn left onto McFarland Parkway and then turn right to merge onto GA-400 S/US-19 S. Continue on GA-400 for about 20 minutes and then take exit 4B for I-285 W toward Chattanooga/Birmingham. Follow the I-285 until you reach Cumberland, keep right to merge onto the 1-75 S and continue onto Horace E. Tate Freeway. Merge onto 1-75 S/I-85 S and then take exit 249 A for Courtland Street toward Georgia State University. Make a right onto Auburn Ave NE and you will be in the heart of downtown Atlanta!
